Oscars Tourist ‘Gary from Chicago’ Reportedly Served 20 Years in Prison

Gary Alan Coe, the giddy tourist from Chicago who was “married” by Denzel Washington at the Oscars, was reportedly released from prison just three days before he made his television debut.

According to TMZ, Coe served 20 years in the California prison system before for committing “multiple felonies” before he was released last week. Coe spoke about his time behind bars in an exclusive interview on Monday (Feb. 27, 2017) with ABC7, revealing that he met his wife Vickie Vines while serving time.

“Change is possible. It’s a sad day to be in prison for 20 years and not be able to be a dad, granddad to your children,” said Coe. “You know what my son told me today, man, and I almost come to tears. He said he’s proud of me. So to hear your children say that they’re proud of me means the world to me.”

Prison records show that Coe was admitted to the Corcoran Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in California in 1994. FOX News also points out that there is a registered sex offender in California with the same who was charged with attempted rape by force or fear. It has not been confirmed if this is the same Gary Alan Coe.

Coe and Vines are still planning their July wedding despite their impromptu unofficial ceremony “officiated” by Washington.
