WATCH: Chris Brown Responds to Report Claiming He’s ‘Dancing with Death’ Due to Drug Addiction
Chris Brown responded to a report containing distressing claims about his “downward spiral,” onset by an untreated addiction to drugs and illicit substances.
The Billboard exposé published on Thursday (Mar. 2, 2017) assembles claims made by Brown’s inner circle—including his current and former employees, friends, and associates—to stress that Brown’s dependence on drugs is leading him down a potentially fatal path. The report alleges that Brown has not been taking medication for his bipolar II condition that he was diagnosed with in 2014 and that he’s been sipping lean, a mixture of promethazine/codeine syrup and a soft drink, to help him come down after a coke or Molly binge.
From the report:
“Brown scrolled through Instagram, hunting for clues about the status of his ex, the 28-year-old model Karrueche Tran. Whom was she with last night, and where? Who was commenting on her most recent photos?”
A current member of Brown’s team told Billboard, “He will cuss you out and say, ‘Hey, man, I’m functioning. I’m going to get the work out.’ And he does. But [he’s not] the first functional star who thinks they can handle those powerful drugs. I got to say with all my heart, he’s dancing with death.”
Brown responded to the report in an Instagram story by denying that he has any problems at all.
“I’m tired of reading about some s**t soon as I’ve got something popping,” he said. “Soon as I want to promote a tour, a party, a fu**ing album, anything, y’all bring up something.”
Soon after Brown announced his 33-date Party tour with 50 Cent, Fabolous, O.T. Genasis, and Kap G, his ex-girlfriend, Tran, filed a restraining order against him and alleged that he threatened to kill her. She claimed that Brown punched her in the stomach twice and pushed her down the stairs several years ago while he was still probation for assaulting Rihanna in 2009.
“My weed and my work. That’s all I need,” Brown concluded in his Instagram story.
