Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Were Tattooed by a Monk Together Before Their Separation
According to the Daily Mail, Jolie and Pitt got tattooed together in February 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia by a former monk named Arjan noo Kanpai. Jolie flew Kanpai from Bankok to Cambodia while she was filming her original Netflix film, First They Killed My Father, where she acquired three Sak Yant tattoos on her back, which are believed to give the wearer “magic powers” associated with healing, luck, strength, and protection against evil.
Kanpai, who has tattooed Jolie in the past, used steel rods mounted with a surgical steel needle to administer her ink. This is the traditional method that is usually more painful than a tattoo gun but is more accurate than the latter.
Pitt’s tattoo by Kanpai is a Buddhist symbol that is positioned on the left side of his stomach. The Daily Mail reports that their designs were intended to “to symbolically bind them as husband and wife.”
