Mama June Shannon Claims She Was Abused by Sugar Bear During Relationship
Mama June Shannon is opening up old wounds.
The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch recently got candid about her past relationship with Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, claiming her former lover was “very emotionally and physically” abusive during their relationship on Wendy Williams’ daytime talk show.
“There was a lot of stuff that was hidden for many, many years,” Mama June confessed, adding her children — Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, Anna “Chickadee” Shannon, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon and Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon — were all aware of Sugar Bear’s behavior.
The reality star added that her ex’s new wife will see his angry side for the first time on the upcoming episode of Mama June: From Not to Hot, in which everyone will sit down to air their grievances. “All I wanted to do was be honest,” she said of the difficult reunion. “This episode is going to show a little piece of our life. It’s going to open up a lot of people’s eyes to know that, ‘Hey, June wasn’t lying.'”
The 37-year-old also claimed Sugar Bear has been estranged from his biological daughter, Alana, and the rest of the girls for years. “He’s not their dad. He severed that,” she explained, claiming Pumpkle’ eye buckle was “his fault.”
“Several things that happened on Honey Boo Boo that was covered up,” she admitted.
The ex-couple’s TLC show was canceled in 2014 when word got out that Mama June was romantically involved with a registered sex offender named Mark McDaniel. In 2016, Mama June and Sugar Bear returned to TV with an appearance on Marriage Bootcamp, where Sugar Bear revealed he cheated on his longtime partner with both men and women.
“It’s time the world sees him for what he is,” Mama June told Page Six of her ex this week. “I’m not going to put my kids through that ever again.”
Sugar Bear since denied the abuse accusations, telling Entertainment Tonight, “It is not true, any of it. June won’t let me see or talk to Alana.”
