Kelly Clarkson Will Be a Coach on ‘The Voice,’ Not a Judge on ‘American Idol’
Kelly Clarkson is joining The Voice as a coach for season 14 of the reality series!
NBC revealed Clarkson’s new red seat on The Voice in an announcement on Thursday (May 11, 2017).
“I’m so excited to join The Voice at NBC,” Clarkson said in a statement. “We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now.”
She added that she’s enjoyed appearing on the show in recent seasons as an adviser or a performer and that she established an “amazing relationship” with the network during her Christmas special.
“I can’t wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they’ve needed to break into the industry,” Clarkson continued. “Watch out [Blake] Shelton, I’m comin’ to win!!”
Clarkson is currently working on her new studio album. It was recently announced that Jennifer Hudson will be one of the judges on season 13, along with Shelton, Adam Levine, and Miley Cyrus. According to NBC, a fourth coach for season 14 will be announced at a later date.
The Voice airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST/PST on NBC.
