Your 6 Weekend Picks: Miss USA 2017 Is Crowned, Jim Parsons Is Married
Kára McCullough, a 25-year-old scientist from the District of Columbia who works for the UN Nuclear Regulatory Commission, was crowned Miss USA on Sunday night (May 14, 2017).
The five finalists in the competition were asked questions about the pros and cons of social media, women’s rights, and issues affecting the American youth. When McCullough was asked if she things that equal access to healthcare is a right or a privilege, McCullough went with the latter.
“As a government employee, I’m granted health care and I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have jobs,” she responded.
McCullough received backlash on social media for this answer in addition to a response that she provided to a question about feminism. She is the second consecutive competitor from the District of Columbia to win the competition.
