Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara Make Their Public Debut as a Couple
You’re not official until you’re red carpet official.
Joaquin Phoenix and rumored girlfriend Rooney Mara made their relationship public when they stepped out together for the closing ceremony of 70th annual Cannes Film Festival on Sunday (May 28, 2017). Though the two didn’t verbally confirm their budding romance, photos of their PDA certainly put the speculations to rest!
The couple — who first met playing husband and wife in 2013’s Her and star in the upcoming biblical epic, Mary Magdalene, together — got very cozy when they were seated next to each other at the awards presentation. At one point, Phoenix, 42, was spotted with his hand on the 30-year-old actress’s leg as he whispered something into her ear.
When the actor was announced the winner for his role in You Were Never Really Here, he celebrated his big with an intimate embrace from Mara.
The duo were later seen leaving the ceremony holding hands. They left together in the same chauffeured car.”They went for their car and he’s holding her hand like it was unconscious. Like it fits,” an onlooker told People. “They seem a totally natural and easy couple.”
Romance rumors between Phoenix and Mara first surfaced in January when they pair reportedly skipped the Golden Globes for a spa getaway in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. At the time, a rep for Phoenix claimed they were only “good friends.”
