Donald Glover Is Retiring From Music as Childish Gambino

Donald Glover no longer wants to be recognized as his rap alter-ego, Childish Gambino.

The Atlanta actor, who will star as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, believes it’s time to retire his stage name. Just five year after the release of his debut album, Camp, Donald says he’s ending his music career because he doesn’t think it’s “necessary” anymore.

After talking to the Huffington Post recently, he said that the reason for the name change, or abandonment, was because of the fact that he didn’t want to become redundant.

“There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?’” he said. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”
