Kourtney Kardashian’s Painful Beauty Secret Leads Today’s Star Sightings
Beauty is not for the faint of heart.
For Kourtney Kardashian, she undergoes microneedling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for flawless-looking skin. Touted as a “Vampire Facial” or “Vampire Facelift,” procedure involves patients getting their face stabbed with tiny needles filled with their own blood platelet-rich plasma.
After shocking fans by sharing a video of the bloody beauty treatment, the 38-year-old took to her app to explain why she believes the painful technique is “SO beneficial to your skin.”
“This procedure causes trauma to the skin, tricking it into believing that it has been injured. Your skin goes into recovery mode by creating new collagen, blood vessels and cells,” she wrote. “The blood platelets applied to your skin contain antioxidants, stimulate cell turnover, increase collagen, hydrate, rejuvenate and restore your skin. Your skin look feel refreshed and healthy, with a glowing after-effect.”
According to the reality star, the treatment is “basically the application of the PRP (platelet-rich plasma) in your blood onto and into your skin. First, your blood is drawn and run through a centrifuge that spins the blood to separate the lighter plasma from the rest of the contents.”
“Before the treatment, your skin will be prepped and you’ll receive microneedling or microdermabrasion. The PRP will then be applied like a serum and penetrated into the skin with small needles,” she continued. “After the treatment, your skin will be a bit red—they advise to not put anything on your skin at all for 24 hours. If I’m home for the weekend, I will keep my skin product-free even longer.”
As fans know, Kim Kardashian previously underwent the same thing on an episode of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami. She vowed after crying through the entire procedure, “Oh my God, I would never get a facelift if it ever felt like that!”
