Stan Lee’s Most Unforgettable Characters: Thor
How do you make a superhero stronger than the strongest human? You don’t — you make him a God, instead, and that’s exactly what Lee had in mind when creating Thor. Based on the god Thor of Norse mythology, this character is the physically strongest character in Marvel, even beating out the Hulk for the title. Lee has also admitted that the creation of Thor was to make a character who was smarter than Fantastic Four member Reed Richards, in a godly-like way. Although Thor had originally appeared in Venus #12 in 1951, his official debut was not until 1962 in Journey Into Mystery #83.
