Andrew Garfield Getting Buff for 'Spider-Man'
Now that he's been tapped as the new Spider-Man/Peter Parker, it's time for Andrew Garfield to get himself into web-spinning shape.
London's Daily Mirror reports the 27-year-old British actor (and star of the current box office hit The Social Network) has quit smoking in order to hit the gym for grueling, superhero-prepping workouts.
"He needs to be lithe and flexible for the role, and is working with a trainer on daily Pilates exercises," the report says. "Andrew's brother is a doctor so he has been giving him nutritional advice."
The already-lithe Andrew will really have to get into fighting shape if he's going to take on the newly-cast Spidey villain Rhys Ifans, the actor best known for playing Hugh Grant's lovably lazy roommate in the romantic comedy Notting Hill. The Hollywood Reporter revealed the casting tidbit, adding that it remains unclear which villain Ifans will take on.
Spider-Man 4 begins filming in December, ahead of its blockbuster 3D release slated for July 2012. In addition to A-Garf and Ifans, It Girl Emma Stone has signed on to play love interest Gwen Stacy and Glee's Dianna Agron is also reportedly in the running for a role.
