‘Breaking Dawn’ Might Not Have a Birth Scene
It’s one of the most memorable—and quite possibly the most graphic—passages from the Twilight saga. But if screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has her way, the birth scene in Breaking Dawn might not make it to the big screen at all.
Rosenberg admits that she’s currently weighing the possibility of leaving Renesmee’s birth out of the upcoming screen adaptation of Breaking Dawn, figuring that some things might best be left to the imagination:
“On the fan site, on Facebook, all the comments are, ‘It has to be R-rated! You have to show the childbirth! Gore and guts and sex!’ For me it’s actually more interesting to not see it. You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth… It doesn’t mean it’s any less evocative of an experience.”
Ultimately, however, Rosenberg will leave the decision to director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), who’ll be helming the two-part Breaking Dawn:
“From a screenwriter standpoint that’s gonna land more squarely in the director’s hands. That’s one of those things [where] I kind of say [and] make a few sort of general suggestions on the page and say, ‘Go! Go, Bill! Do it!’ ”
While we await Condon’s decision, feel free to offer your own opinion in the comments section: Would Breaking Dawn be better or worse without the birth scene?
And make sure to hit up The Forks Report for all things Twilight-related.

whattt!!! oh my God this woman doesnt have any idea of what we want!! For Gods sake I hope Summit open their eyes and get another writer Twilight its not for kids!!! we want every detail! Im so dissapointed !!
OMGG we have to have the birth scene!! Its how Bella is turned!!! Ughhh Pleasee they need to have this part!!!
There doesnt have to be “gore and guts and sex!”, but pleasedont cut out one of the most interesting scenes!!! If you do it, you S**K!!!!
She’s BLIND, isn’t she!? Doesn’t she understand that the squealing tweens and the teens and the adults ALL WANT A BIRTH SCENE? God. Bill Condon, please make it R-rated. Please, please, PLEASE…!
i’m totally agree with larrin
not having the birth scene will be a huge disappointment to the world, and this ‘Melissa Rosenberg’ character would be hated everywhere for the rest of time for ruining the best experience of the whole twilight saga.
This is what every Twi-Fan has been waiting for. We’ve read the books watched the movies and all we’ve wanted is to see bella be turnt into a vampire and see her give the gory childbirth. The movie is about romance so the some sexual content should be there and its also about suspense so there should be blood. Of course it shouldn’t be like a blood bath, slughter scene but like Meyer’s described it. this a key part of the Saga.DON’T B CRAZY SHOW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell Melissa Rosenberg has already killed the first three films and now she is gonna kill the last one too. Hell F**king No!!! What is the point of Breaking Dawn being made into two films if the screenwriter or director is not gonna add the birth and Bella’s transformation scene! Make this movie rated R and follow the book the way it’s suppose to be. To tall true fans of the books not the movies find the petition or make one to make Breaking Dawn rated R and get a new screenwriter!!!!
This makes me sad because the actors in these films have done such a great job. And here comes Melissa Rosenberg who has to ruin all the movies so far and apparently this one as well by wanting to take out the birth scene. She has no idea how angry she has made all the fans of the books by having changed or completely having gotten rid of important parts of the books. THE TWILIGHT SAGA IS NOT FOR KIDS AT ALL!!!!!! If Melissa Rosenberg makes Breaking Dawn PG-13 I WILL NOT WASTE MY MONEY IN GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE!!!! I am really angry at Melissa Rosenberg for ruining the movies for me. I hope they remake the movies again later in the future. Don’t make Breaking Dawn into two movies if your going to cut out all the important details!! Melissa Rosenberg sucks!! They need a new screenwriter!!
I agree with all of the above!!!!!!!!!!
SHE CLEARLY HASNT READ THE BOOKS!! or doesnt care about what true “twihard” fans are wanting for the Breaking Dawn films …. those scenes .. the birth and sex scenes are probably the ones that are the most crucial parts to the book because of its importance and the description in the book … so if she doesnt include the sex scene and/or the childbirth .. then honestly what is the point of watching the moive.
i agree with the people commenting, im only 15 but i want breaking dawn rated r . it has to be theres so many important things and Melissa Rosenberg is ruining it. i understand she might not want to show everything but the important parts should be shown!!! stick to the book. thats what makes some movies some of the best out there because they stick to the books ..to what fans want to see!
I agree with all of the above!!!!!!!!!!
Me tooo!!!!!!!!! The birth scene is a MUST
whattt!!! oh my God this woman doesnt have any idea of what we want!! For Gods sake I hope Summit open their eyes and get another writer Twilight its not for kids!!! we want every detail! Im so dissapointed !!
omg!! u’re SO right!!
please!!!!
I applaud her. The entire book series is disgustingly misogynistic, culminating in this very scene.
As a twihard Mum, i understand where Melissa is coming from. But, there has to be a way to make it not all “Gore and guts and sex”.
The birth scene is the part of the book that had me in tears. Reading it from Jacobs perspective, feeling his agony and pain, esp when he thought she was dead……oh gawd, it’s making me tear up again just thinking about it.
It MUST be put in the movie. It is the most important part of the whole series. It is what we were all waiting for…Renesme’s birth and Bella being turned.
Im sure you can work out a way to make it tasteful
You better go by the book with Breaking Dawn or have a lot of disappointed fans. The Twilight Saga is for ADULTS, not children. We are not going to see a Disney Movie!!. Many fans were disappointed because New Moon was so far off from the book that if was a big let down. Parents should not be letting their younger children read these books or watch the movies. If you want to continue to make money off this Twilight Saga, then you might want to think about the adults who should be watching these movies, not children who are too young to even know what the love between a man and a woman is all about and all it entails.
Okay, in this case, let’s take the movie Sex and the City and take out all the sex so that kids can come watch it. What do we have left?? Just the City! Did I get my point across?!?!?! This is ridiculous! This is an ADULT movie, not a kids movie! My 39 year old sister would not read the books because she kept saying “oh those books are for kids”. She recently after the movie New Moon hit DVD, decided to read the books. Now she agrees with me that these books are for adults not for kids and would never let her younger children even read the books! I believe that you can take out all you want to from the movie to make it so kids can watch it, but the concept is still there and it is for adults, not children. If I wanted to go see a Disney Movie I would go watch TOY STORY 3!!!! I want the adult romance and if it means it has to be rated R then get with it!!!! ADULTS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE PAYING YOU TO DO YOUR JOB SO, so in the words of a famous name brand, JUST DO IT!!!!
It’s evident how many of you have not had children. If the majority of you had actually experienced a normal birth (or God help you if there were complications), you wouldn’t be so gung ho for “sex and gore and birth. Team Robsten 4evah!”. Yes, it’s a pivotal scene in the book. Yes, Bella gets turned. No, it’s not necessary to show Renesme’s birth in graphic detail. I agree with anyone who thinks that there must be a tasteful way to get through this part of the story. Some things really are better left to the reader/viewer’s imagination.
Yes there is a tasteful way to do the birth scene, but Breaking Dawn is still not meant for children. The book explains in detail what happened so the imagination was not needed. If you are going to leave out the birth scene because it is too graphic, then you need to leave out the honeymoon, the imprinting, Bella drinking the blood to keep herself and the baby alive and any fight scenes that are too graphic. Leave all that out and you basically have no movie!! This is a fiction book, i is not meant to be tasteful!!!!!!!!!!!
It needs to be R- rated! This book is not pg-13! Please stick to the book and add everything! I would gladly sit through a 3 hour movie! Thos kids need to just wait until they r old enough and see the movie! This ones ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whats next? no sex scenes too? no renesmee? sombody should fire her!
the birth scene is like the hight of this movie!?
i mean come on ?
a baby is born and bella turns into a vamp !!
i has to be there, besides i would love to see kristen do that scene :D
Breaking Dawn was my least favorite book. It just had a different tone than the other books. There are many young girls that like and will watch these movies. To suddenly get to the last installment and make it rated R (graphic sex and gore) would make no sense and not fit with the series. Breaking Dawn didn’t fit the series. Apparently I’m the only one on here who feels that way.
And I really don’t want to see Bella spew blood or Edward bite through her womb to get the baby out…But, I would like to see when he changes her.
And I do think the love scene/s can be done tastefully and beautifully without getting explicit.

Thank goodness there’s someone else who agrees with me! Those who say “This one’s for us (by the way I am a mom of 2). Let the kids wait until they’re older.” Bull! There are plenty of graphic vampire shows and movies for the adults if that’s what they want. As a fellow “adult”, I would rather see it tastefully done and left to our imaginations.
me too…i agree with yall….WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!dts wat am waitin 4,,aw jacob is gonna change ova renesmes birth…dats lyk d main tin in breakin dawn,..dey shld beta nt talk sh*t,..am f*ckin mad rite nw,…Melissa wateva,…u suck…GOSH!!!!!!!!!a nw sreenwriter rite nw,,,jeez,…dey dnt even care bout aw WE re gona feel IF DEY CUT DAT PART,,,,NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…….BREAKING DAWN IS MA BEST…
if there is no birth there will be no vampire bella! its tupid they left too much out of twilight and its started to get better but it would ruin the whole film if they left out the birth maybe it dosent have to be all bloody and graphic but it has to be there!
OMG!!!!!!REALLY?!?!?!? This isnt a childrens book….so i say get a new writer n give us wat we want….we want the most important and detail parts of the story….
Is Melissa Rosenberg just plain stupid? Oh wait, we all know the answer to that one. Of course the birthing scene has to be in there, you stupid faggot. Someone fire her?
I agree we need that birth scene its what made bella turned it wouldn’t make sense if they took it out it ruin the movie
yeah this makes me mad i want to see that part that is what i am looking forward to if you take it out it alot of ppl wont want to see it

Thank you, dear voice of reason.
What about the sex scene being “left to the imagination” in the BOOK. Now that was disappointing.
showin d child birth phase is d most imp. part coz evrythng changes since… n if we got no dat part in the movie den d movie will b worthless watchin… der has 2 b sex scene n child birth scene to make it real breakin dawn..
sei popo brutta
WTF!!!!!! How can you not have the birth scene!!! that’s like the most imortant thing in the damn book!!!! sooo it should be in the movie!!!aaaaahhhh
omgggggggggggg how can she even think about that :S all the agony edward went in not to turn bella come to an end in this scene and she doest want it in??? have she read the books?! OMG i cant beleive hoow crazy she is
omg they have to have the birth scene in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this lady suckssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
um wtf is she talkin about? maybe to her it’s cool to not see.. but she’s playin to millions of fans and that is one of the most important scenes. BD was broken into 2 films so that less things had to be left out. taking such a big scene like the birth out would basically render breaking BD into unimportant. WTF! we need a new writer stat. we’ve needed for a while.
OMG! THERE SHOULD SO BE THE BIRTH SCENE! its one of the most memorable parts of the book! & its how bella is changed into a vampire. DUH. the films/books are about vampires, so the audience should be able to see bellas last moments as a human and first moments as a vampire.
I agree – the birth of Renesmee and death/rebirth of Bella is the most important scene of Breaking Dawn…its the most anticipated scene of the whole series. If she(Mellissa R. or Bill C.) is not up to the challenge, find someone who is…don’t take the easy road out.
(swearing in my head)
WT THE HELL no birth scene ain’t that like a really important scene coz u can c the treaty is still not broken as well the brilliant control of edward as well we can c jacob leaving bella coz he can’t take it as well we c the parents-edward and bella’s reaction to cing the baby girl aww.
AT THE HELL you need the birth scene
personally, anyone reading twilight should be able to see an R rated movie. It’s all about wanting to die if the person you love doesn’t love you back, wanting to give up your soul to turn into whatever your boyfriend is, and sneaking off regardless of what their parents think. And we’re letting our 15 year olds read this?
Now maybe it’s just me, (not a mother, and 23) but you should be pretty mature to read that kind of stuff and not have it become real to a heavily impressionable young mind. Girls reading this are believing that it’s just ok to run off and do whatever in the name of ‘love’ but in reality, not forks, it just doesn’t happen quite like that, at least not without unwanted teen pregnancies and missing fathers.
So throw in the birthing scene! the fans that are over 20 like myself would LOVE to see some more realistic scenes and our boyfriends would be more on board for a little more realism and a little less teenager drama. I’m all for it being R rated! (and I LOVE Stewart’s idea of having Bella’s vision be 3-D, what a fabulous concept)
It’s just as sad as how they did the meadow scene in twilight only ten times worse. I thought and many agreed with me that the meadow scene where Edward shows Bella he sparkles wasn’t done up to be the pivotal scene that it was in the book. I thought it was downplayed wasn’t as good. If they leave out the Birth/Turning Scene it will seriously ruin it for me. That is a pivotal moment for the entire series. If the director doesn’t get it, then get a new director. It’s clear to me that the fans all want it and it’s about the fans.
*facepalm* This woman as crazy. How – tell me HOW – can this movie POSSIBLY be done without the birthing scene?? That’s the most important part of the entire book!! I’m so sick of these movies being focussed to 12 year old girls. This book is anything but a kid’s story. Please humor those of us mature enough to understand it all and give us a movie that is actually like the books

she should be sacked she is going to ruin the movie please get someone who agrees with us to write it the thought of it not being in makes me so angry grr
I think they should show something for the birth scene… its important to show how Bella gets turned into a vamp. I agree with the others about if they are going to leave important things out like that then it shouldnt be a two part movie.. and I think that when Bella turns then it would be cool to see it in 3D in the movie theater but not at home just make the picture nice and bright! and the option of 3D…
You have to have the birth sceen. Its important to the story line on Bella becoming a vampire, Its an important part of the book which means it should be in the movie. Bella’s child birth isnt your normal push and breath….. its a life and death moment.

Seeing Edward and Bella at her last human moments is a critical part of the story!!! Its what all the books have been leading up to.
Breaking Dawn is being made into two movies so why leave out a crtical moment of the book???
New Screen Writer Please!!!!
Us Fans that pay the $$$ to see these movies what more not less of the story line!!!
