Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaskan governor and failed vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is opening up about her breakup this week with Levi Johnston, her former fiancé and father to their son, Tripp Easton.
"It is true that Levi and I are no longer together," she said in a statement to Us. "However, I am absolutely committed to being the best mom to Tripp Easton."
The unwed Bristol's pregnancy at age 17 threatened to derail the McCain/Palin ticket when it was announced last September. However, voter concerns seemed to be assuaged when the public was assured that Bristol would be marrying her young babydaddy. Tripp Easton was born last December.
Johnston, 19, also remarked this week that the couple had ended their engagement "a while ago."
Bristol also took time out to blast earlier reports about her clan and its seemingly endless drama. "As for the tabloid article, there are many inaccuracies contained within it," Bristol said. "Unfortunately, my family has seen many things in these tabloids as many try to 'cash in' on the Palin name. Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."
Hmm; blaming the media must be a hereditary trait in the Palin family.
