Britney Spears Brings The 'Circus' To New Orleans

on Mar. 4, 2009 06:58 AM / 1 Comment

Britney Spears opened her first tour in five years in New Orleans last night and reportedly brought down the big top.

Spears' 40 show Circus tour was said to be a veritable spectacle with fire-eaters, acrobats, dancers defying gravity, and Spears slinking through hits new and old.

The show was also full of theatrical illusions, including Brit getting sawed in half at one point. Criss Angel who?

This was ringmaster Britney's triumphant return to the concert arena since the abrupt cancellation of her Onyx Hotel tour in 2004.

Since that time, the performer has been caught on a roller coaster of personal problems and familial drama. And all of it was played out in the public eye.

Things seemed to have settled down since Britney's dad Jamie assumed conservatorship of her estate and Spears seems to have made a concentrated effort to regroup and concentrate on her pop career and children.

The concert was said to be a trippy affair with everything from Britney dancing with ninjas during "Gimme More" to playing a policewoman during the encore performance of her hit "Womanizer."

Fans at the show Twittered and sent photos to BritneySpears.com throughout the memorable evening, keeping those unfortunate enough not to be there abreast of what was going on in Britney's three ring (stage) circus.

"8:02pm: Singing "everytime" while sitting on a giant umbrella suspended above stage. She sounds great!!," Singlemomindebt Twittered.

Spears didn't shy away from the more sexual elements of some of her songs.

"8:22pm: She is getting blindfolded.."Touch of My Hand"..she's on a couch.. getting on two guys and flying into the air," Julie M Twittered. Saucy!

Reuters reports that while most fans seemed to think the show was a huge hit, a few had some issues.

"I hoped she would talk directly to the audience, especially since this is her home, but she didn't say anything," Kelly Dupont of Baton Rouge complained.

Spears hails from Kentwood, Louisiana, and merely told the audience that she loved them during breaks between songs.

Britney's next stop is Atlanta tomorrow, and then Miami on Saturday.
