Perhaps Britney Spears' ultimate birthday present will be seeing her "comeback" album Circus—which was released on Tuesday, the day the singer turned 27—debut atop the Billboard album chart next week.
The publication notes that Spears' sixth album sold about 330,000 copies by Thursday, and is well on track to top the new chart when it's announced next Wednesday. The final sales tallying will be done by the music industry magazine on Monday night.
Anyone would be hard-pressed not to know Britney has a new album out. This past week's promotional blitz for Circus included high-profile Christmas tree-lighting ceremonies in both New York City and Los Angeles for the star, a circus-themed performance on ABC's Good Morning America, plus an airing of the documentary Britney Spears: For The Record on MTV last Sunday night.
Plans were also unveiled for the pop singer's 2009 world tour on Tuesday, on her official website.
Billboard also points out that Circus would be Brit's fifth #1 album. Among female artists, the only four to rack up more chart-toppers are Barbra Streisand (eight), Madonna (seven) and Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (both with six).
Britney's 2007 LP Blackout has been her only studio album not to reach the peak of the chart.
