Fresh from her participation (via taped appearance) in the lighting of the Christmas tree in New York City's Rockefeller Center, Britney Spears, 27, helped bring Christmas to life on the opposite coast Thursday night.

Britney made an appearance at the first annual "Light of the Angels" Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the L.A. Live entertainment complex.  She was joined by comedian Adam Carolla, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The pop goddess flipped a candy cane switch which fired up the tree and signified that the Yuletide season is officially underway in the City of Angels.

Just Jared reports that L.A. Live is a $2.5 billion project and is only three years into construction, with a cineplex to be completed next year.

Looking wintry gorgeous and all smiles in a white coat and royal blue dress, Spears chatted with Carolla about what the holiday season means to her.

"It’s family time,” Britney said. “We usually do the tree thing. The family comes over; it’s fun.”

Will there be even more toys under the tree for her sons Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden James, 2, on December 25?

Santa apparently already gave them directions to FAO Schwarz in NYC.
