Bruno Sashays Into an 'R' Rating

So far in the making of his upcoming movie, Sacha Baron Cohen has managed to annoy the fashion world and and the the Alabama National Guard. Among, no doubt, many others.

But at least the Borat funnyman managed to appease the Motion Picture Association of America.

E! Online reports that Cohen's film, the cumbersomely but hilariously titled Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt, has earned an R rating from the MPAA.

The ratings organization was originally going to slap the movie with an NC-17 rating, which generally spells box-office death for mainstream releases. However, after paring back some of the more crude and sexually explicit material, the MPAA relented and granted the flick a more profit-friendly R.

Vulgarity junkies shouldn't despair, though; the excised scenes will most likely fnd their way onto the movie's DVD release.

In Bruno, Cohen, as the titular character, pranks the world at large in the guise of a reporter for Austrian gay TV.

Bruno hits theaters on July 10. The MPAA notes that, even in its edited form, the film still contains "pervasive strong and crude sexual content, graphic nudity and language." Giggity.

Bruno is destined to be the best movie ever. It's going to wipe its ass and floss its teeth with the original print of Citizen Kane. Probably in that order.

I wonder what they had to cut to get it from NC-17 to R? Too much mesh t-shirt?

Ah well, looks like I'll be forced to buy yet another DVD just for the bonus features.
