The only reason a report of Simon’s tardiness was “leaked” was because Ellen was upset about it. Everyone knows Simon is characteristically late, so even if the producers wanted to sully his reputation by reporting it, it would not surprise anyone or change anyone’s opinion of him. Besides, according to EW, Idol is leaving the door open for Simon, so they are not seeking revenge on him of any kind for not renewing his contract. They are most likely treating him with kid gloves in hopes that he will change his mind.
