Jay-Z, a.k.a. Shawn Carter, was born December 4, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York. He is a Grammy-winning rapper, businessman and entrepreneur. He has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and was ranked the 10th most successful artist of the decade by Billboard magazine. Some of his business ventures include Roc-A-Fella Records, co-ownership of the 40/40 nightclub franchise and a partial ownership of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets. His net worth is estimated to be $150 million. Jay-Z is also involved with various philanthropic ventures. He made a $1 million donation to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort and increased awareness of the global water shortage with his world tour.
