Michelle Pfeiffer

Bio

When you think of the stereotypical California girl, she probably looks a lot like Michelle Pfeiffer. Fortunately for this actress, she was able to show the world she was more than a mere beach bunny. Michelle was born in Santa Ana on April 29, 1958, and grew up in Orange County, California. As a teenager, she played 'Alice' (..in Wonderland) at Disneyland and went on to be crowned 1978's Miss Orange County. Although she didn't win the Miss California title, she did get an agent and landed some commercials and small parts in television shows such as the Animal House spin-off Delta House. In 1980 she played a car hop and girlfriend of Tony Danza in the cult flick The Hollywood Knights. The Hollywood publicity machine went into overdrive in 1982 to sell Michelle as the second coming of Olivia Newton-John in Grease 2, but the film was a flop. Fortunately for the actress, her supporting role as drug lord Al Pacino's wife in director Brian De Palma's classic Scarface in 1983 brought her front and center into the spotlight. Her career picked up, and the hits kept coming in the late '80s in The Witches of Eastwick, Married to the Mob and Dangerous Liaisons. Michelle created one of her more memorable roles in 1989 where she lounged on a piano in a slinky red dress singing 'Making Whoopee' in The Fabulous Baker Boys. She also made the purr-fect villain to Michael Keaton's Batman when she donned a skin-tight vinyl cat suit to play 'Catwoman' in 1992's Batman Returns. Michelle has co-starred with some of Hollywood's most desirable leading men including George Clooney (One Fine Day), Harrison Ford (What Lies Beneath) and Sean Penn (I Am Sam) and, after a few years of laying low, came back big in 2007 with her turn as the devious Velma Von Tussle in the musical Hairspray and Lamia, the youth-obsessed witch in the fantasy Stardust. Still radiant and looking fabulous at 50, Michelle still makes audiences wish all actresses could be California girls.
