Al Gore was born March 31, 1948, in Washington, D.C. He was the 45th Vice President of the United States under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. Al, who is a Democrat, ran in the 2000 U.S. Presidential election following his V.P. term, but lost to George W. Bush in a controversial election that was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Since then, he has taken action in environmental issues, founding the Alliance for Climate Protection and co-founding Generation Investment Management. He also wrote a book, An Inconvenient Truth, which was turned into an Academy Award-winning film documentary. In 2007, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental consciousness. Al has four children with ex-wife Tipper Gore, whom he married on May 19, 1970. The couple separated after forty years of marriage in June 2010.
