Alan Cumming

Bio

Alan Cumming was born January 27, 1965, in Aberfeldy, Scotland. He is an actor, writer and director who has appeared in films like GoldenEye, X2: X-Men United, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and the Spy Kids trilogy. He started his career on television in the U.K. in the 1980's, and in 1991 had a major role in Bernard and the Genie. He married Hilary Lyon in 1985, but the two divorced in 1993. Alan is also a stage actor; he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in 1998 for the role of Emcee in Cabaret. He has since appeared in many U.S. television shows, including Sex and the City, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The L Word and The Good Wife, in which he has a starring role. Alan has been romantically linked to partner Grant Shaffer since 2006; the two filed for a civil partnership on January 7, 2007.
