Alfred Hitchcock

Bio

Alfred Hitchcock was born August 13, 1899, in London, England. He was a legendary director and producer who remains one of the most revered and imitated film directors of all time. At the 1968 Academy Awards, he was presented with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, an honorary Oscar, for his contributions to the film industry. Some of his most memorable films include North by Northwest, Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train and The Birds. He was also known for making brief cameos in his films, and for going by the nickname “Hitch.” He received five Oscar nominations for Best Director and six Directors Guild of America nominations (also for Best Director) but, shockingly, never won. He was also nominated for two Emmys for his popular TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which ran from 1955 to 1962, but didn’t win those, either. He did, however, win two Golden Globes and the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. He married Alma Revil on December 2, 1926, and they had one child together. He died at the age of 80 on April 29th, 1980.
