Andy Kaufman was born January 17, 1949, in New York, New York. He was a legendary actor and comedian best known for playing Latka Gravas on the hit TV sitcom Taxi from 1978 until 1983, and for wrestling women as the eccentric and self-proclaimed “Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World.” He also appeared in films such as Stick Around, Heartbeeps, The Top and I'm from Hollywood. Andy made many appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, appearing in the latter’s inaugural episode. In 1983, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died on May 16, 1984, at the age of 35. In 1999, actor and comedian Jim Carrey played Andy in the critically acclaimed Milos Forman biopic Man on the Moon, which focused on Andy’s life and career.
