Angela Bassett was born August 16, 1958, in New York, New York. She is an Oscar-nominated actress who is best known for her roles in Malcolm X, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Waiting to Exhale, Sunshine State and What's Love Got to Do with It. Her portrayal of Tina Turner in the latter earned her a 1994 Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Angela has also appeared in many television series, including Alias, The Cosby Show and ER, in which she had a recurring role as Dr. Cate Banfield. Her work has earned her numerous nominations over the years; her wins include seven NAACP Image Awards and the 1994 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion-Picture Musical or Comedy. On October 12, 1997, she married Courtney Vance. They have two children together.
