Bjork was born November 21, 1965, in Reykjavik, Iceland. She is an Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter, actress and former member of the alternative rock band The Sugarcubes. She cofounded the band in 1986, and they released four albums before disbanding in 1992. After that, Bjork began a solo career, eventually releasing six studio albums. Her first, 1993’s Debut, went platinum, as did her second album, 1995’s Post. Her latest studio album, Volta, was released in 2007. Bjork has appeared in a few films, including the The Juniper Tree and Dancer in the Dark. In the course of her career, she has been nominated for nineteen MTV Video Music Awards, winning four. She has also been nominated for thirteen Grammys and two Golden Globes. She has a son with former Sugarcubes bandmate Thor Eldon, and a daughter with current partner Matthew Barney, the artist.
