Bio

Dr. Dre was born Andre Romelle Young on February 18, 1965, in Compton, California. He is a Grammy-winning record producer, rapper and actor who is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and a former co-owner of Death Row Records. He has produced albums for such artists as Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent. Dr. Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic, was one of the best-selling albums of 1993; he won a 1994 Grammy for his single “Let Me Ride.” He has since won four more Grammys, including the 2010 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Crack a Bottle,” which he shared with Eminem and 50 Cent. Dr. Dre began his career as a member of the rap group World Class Wreckin’ Cru and then achieved fame as a member of the gangsta rap group N.W.A. He has also appeared as an actor in such films as Set It Off and Training Day. In 2008, Dr. Dre’s son, Andre Young Jr., died of a heroin and morphine overdose. Dr. Dre has three other children.
