Ellen DeGeneres was born January 26, 1958, in Metairie, Louisiana. The stand-up comedian, actress and Emmy-winning television personality is best known for hosting Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003. In 2010, Ellen was also a judge on the hit reality series American Idol. In the course of her career, she has won 14 Emmys. She also voiced the character Dory in the 2003 Oscar-winning Disney Pixar film Finding Nemo, and in 2006, she hosted the 79th Academy Awards. Ellen starred in two TV sitcoms before landing her talk show: Ellen, which ran from 1994 to 1998, and The Ellen Show, which ran from 2001 to 2002. Ellen came out as a lesbian in 1997 on The Oprah Winfrey Show. From 1997 to 2000, she was in a relationship with actress Anne Heche. Ellen is now married to actress Portia de Rossi, who legally changed her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres on September 23, 2010.
