Emma Thompson was born April 15, 1959, in London, England. The actress and screenwriter is best known for starring in and writing the screenplay for the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility, for which she won the 1996 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and was also nominated for Best Actress. Emma was also nominated for two Academy Awards in 1994: Best Actress, for The Remains of the Day, and Best Supporting Actress, for In the Name of the Father. In 1993, she won the Best Actress Oscar for Howard’s End. Emma has also starred in films such as Love Actually, Angels in America, Stranger than Fiction, Last Chance Harvey, An Education, the two Nanny McPhee movies and three of the Harry Potter films. Emma is a supporter of Greenpeace and is married to second husband Greg Wise, with whom she has two children. Her first husband was actor/director Kenneth Branagh.
