Faith Evans

Faith Evans was born on June 10, 1973 and raised in New Jersey by both her mother and her grandparents, and at the ripe age of two, she developed her vocal talents in the church choir. Later, she performed in her high school's musical productions. After high school, she postponed her dream of singing to pursue a scholarship at Fordham University, but within a year she would fully commit herself to a career in the music industry. Originally, Evans established herself as a songwriter and background singer. She wrote tracks for Mary J. Blige and added her voice to several recordings by artists such as Color Me Badd and Pebbles. Her work eventually caught the interest of Sean Puff Daddy Combs, who made Faith the first female signed to his Bad Boy label and produced her 1995 eponymous debut. The album reached number two on the R&B charts and featured three popular singles. In the same year, she married fellow Big Boy recording artist Christopher "Notorious B.I.G." Wallace nine days after meeting him at a publicity shoot. She would appear on his platinum single One More Chance. Wallace was unfortunately assassinated in the feud between the East and West hip-hop camps. After the tragedy, Combs would release the tribute song I'll Be Missing You, which featured Faith. Her next album, Keeping the Faith did not release until 1998, but was not as successful as her debut album. Although her single Love Like This earned her a Grammy nomination. In the early 2000s, Faith Evans founded her own production company, Pedigree MGI, with her second husband and manager, Todd Russaw and released a third album entitled Faithfully. This album earned her two more Grammy nominations and moved her career full speed ahead. In 2003, she had a role in the film Fighting Temptations. In 2004, Faith and Todd were arrested due to drug possession, driving under the influence, and improper vehicle tags. They were fined and sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend rehab for 13 weeks. In 2008, her self-written autobiography Keep the Faith: A Memoir was released. ________________________________________
