Jennifer Hudson was born September 12, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois. She is an Academy Award-winning actress and singer. Jennifer started singing in her church choir at a very young age. Before auditioning for the third season of American Idol, she had been singing on Disney Cruise Lines. Although the Idol judges praised her vocals throughout the competition, she only came in seventh. After that, she lobbied for the role of Effie in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls, ultimately winning an Oscar and many other awards for the role. She also starred in the films Sex and the City and The Secret Life of Bees. In late 2008, only a month after Jennifer got engaged to David Otunga, her mother, brother and nephew were murdered. She took a break from the spotlight and did not make her first public appearance until singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl in February 2009. Jennifer gave birth to her son, David Otunga, Jr., in August of 2009.
