Jessica Simpson Bio

She may not know the difference between chicken and tuna, but Jessica Simpson could be the smartest ‘dumb blonde’ in the business. The Texas-born singer (on July 10, 1980) has been warbling since she was a kid at her local church. She auditioned for Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club, but lost out to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Undaunted, Jessica Simpson and her father/manager Joe continued to work on her career and her first album, Sweet Kisses, was released in 1999. To support her disc, Jessica toured with boy band 98 Degrees, where she met future husband Nick Lachey. The pair married in 2002 and brought their love to MTV for the reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica in the summer of 2003. Thanks to her ditzy demeanor, the show became a smash, and sales of Jessica’s album In the Skin soared. Sadly, the honeymoon was soon over for the young lovers, who announced their divorce in 2005.

Jessica decided to give the world of feature films a try and slipped on her Daisy Dukes for The Dukes of Hazzard, co-starring Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott. Her video for 'These Boots Were Made for Walking,' featuring a bikini-clad Jessica soaping up the General Lee, got more attention than the film. Jessica Simpson’s film career hasn’t been stellar since then, Employee of the Month was a flop and 2007’s Blonde Ambition was released straight to DVD. Men, however, love the blonde singer - she’s had romances with Dane Cook, Adam Levine and John Mayer. Jessica is currently dating Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, a bedroom touchdown for this Texas girl.

Here are some fun facts:

• She grew up as the daughter of a minister and sang in the church choir. Her first album at age 14 was a Christian one, and her father became her manager.

• She made a decision to stay a virgin until her wedding night, and she announced it on TV at around the time of her marriage to ex-husband Nick Lachey.

• In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jessica's mother said that although her daughter is usually portrayed as a dumb blonde, she has an I.Q. of 160. (This would technically make her a genius.)

• She is the older sister of Ashlee Simpson, and was the maid-of-honor at her wedding to Pete Wentz.
