Joaquin Phoenix was born October 28, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a prominent film actor. Many of Joaquin’s family members are actors; his late brother, River, was an acclaimed actor until his untimely death in 1993. Joaquin started acting in 1982, but didn’t gain much attention until the 1990s, when he appeared in such films as To Die For and Inventing the Abbotts. In 2000, he starred in the blockbuster Gladiator, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. He followed that up with 2002’s Signs. In 2005, he was praised for his performance as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line and was nominated for another Academy Award. In 2009, there was much speculation about his career after he said that he was quitting acting to become a rap artist. However, a year later, he revealed that it had all been for a mockumentary film.
