R&B crooner John Legend has become a legend in the music industry both as a solo artist and an in-demand collaborator. The singer had slightly more humble beginnings, born John Stephens on December 25, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio. John was introduced to music at the age of three by his grandmother, who instructed young John on the art of gospel piano. As a child, he sang with his church choir and took an interest in classical music. Talented and intelligent, John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He initially worked for a consulting firm in Boston and later New York. His music industry fame through his collaborations with artists such as Alicia Keys, Kayne West and Jay-Z. The Legend's debut album, Get Lifted, resulted in two charting singles, â€˜Used to Love Uâ€™ and â€˜Ordinary People.â€™ It also won three Grammys in 2006, including Best New Artist. Johnâ€™s follow-up, 2006â€™s Once Again, added two more Grammys to his collection. The singer should probably buy a bigger mantle, his next album is due in stores later this year, and is sure to be another chart-topper.
