With her mega-watt smile, Julia Roberts dazzles on the big screen as one of Hollywood’s most dependable and beloved actresses. Julia Fiona Roberts, born on October 28, 1967, in Atlanta, Georgia, grew up in the suburb of Smyrna with older brother Eric Roberts and sister Lisa Roberts Gillan, both of whom are also actors.

Julia aspired to be a veterinarian and attended Georgia State University. She changed her mind and headed to New York to join her sister Lisa and chase the acting dream. After small parts in TV and movies, Julia turned heads as a sassy waitress in 1988’s Mystic Pizza. She followed up by co-starring with Dolly Parton, Shirley MacClaine, Sally Field and Darryl Hannah in the Southern-fried comedy-drama Steel Magnolias.

Despite working with Hollywood’s top actresses in Magnolias, nothing could prepare Julia for the celebrity that resulted from her first leading role, as a hooker with a heart of gold in the 1990 comedy Pretty Woman, co-starring Richard Gere. She went on to star in the thriller Sleeping with the Enemy and the Peter Pan fantasy Hook, where she played a bewitching Tinkerbell. Julia’s next few films couldn’t match the success of Pretty Woman, but she came back strong with the romantic comedies Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Runaway Bride, re-teaming her with Gere.

In 2001, Julia received a Best Actress Oscar as the tough-talking Erin Brockovich. The new millennium brought even more hits for the actress: Oceans Eleven, Closer and Oceans Twelve. Julia has been romantically linked to Kiefer Sutherland, Liam Neeson and Matthew Perry, but her brief union with quirky country singer Lyle Lovett caused many to scratch their heads. Julia settled with cameraman Daniel Moder, whom she met on the set of The Mexican in 2000. The couple has three kids, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and son Henry. Julia will long reign as Hollywood royalty.
