Kanye West was born June 7, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is an infamous songwriter and rapper. He has sold millions of CDs and has collaborated with artists including Jay-Z, Rihanna and Ludacris. Kanye began his music career in the late 1990s, producing music for artists such as Janet Jackson and Dr. Dre. Kanye released his first CD, College Dropout, in 2004. One of his first singles, “Through the Wire,” was inspired by a car accident he was involved in which resulted in his jaw being wired shut. Other CDs he released include Late Registration and Graduation. Hit songs from those albums include “Gold Digger,” “Flashing Lights” and “Good Life.” Tragically, his mother passed away in 2007 after complications from a form of plastic surgery she was undergoing. In 2009, Kanye rushed onstage after Taylor Swift won the VMA for Best Female Video and declared that Beyoncé should have won. This created much controversy, and Kanye took almost a year off to reevaluate his career. He has since released new music, including “Power.” Kanye was engaged to Alexis Phifer, but the two broke up in 2008. Since then, he has dated Amber Rose and was romantically linked to Selita Ebanks.
