Mandy Moore

Starting her career among a field of blond pop starlets, Mandy Moore has stood out from the pack by putting her considerable acting skills on display. Mandy was born Amanda Leigh Moore on April 10, 1984, in Nashua, New Hampshire, but grew up in Orlando, Florida. She was lumped into the 'pop princess' category in the early years of her career along with fellow singers Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera. She toured as an opening act for the Backstreet Boys in 1999 and released her first album So Real in December of the same year, The album was certified platinum and featured the single 'Candy,' which peaked just shy of the Top 40 on the Billboard chart. In May of 2000, she released I Wanna Be with You, which featured remixed versions of some of the tracks off So Real. Title track wound up gaining popularity after it was featured in the film Center Stage. Mandy took center stage on the big screen following the release of her 1991 album Mandy Moore, playing the lead in the romantic drama A Walk to Remember, which was based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. Although her music career was waning -- sales of her album of '70s covers, titled Coverage, caused her label, Epic to drop her -- Mandy's film career continued to pick up steam, receiving critical acclaim for her role as holier-than-thou high school student 'Hilary Faye' in the 2004 comedy Saved! and guest starred on Scrubs and The Simpsons. She also starred as an aspiring singing idol in 2006's American Dreamz with Hugh Grant and co-starred as Diane Keaton's headstrong daughter in Because I Said So. She got a new record deal in 2007 and released Wild Hope on June 19 of that year. 2007 also brought her biggest box office success in the comedy License to Wed with Robin Williams and John Krasinski. In addition to her entertainment career, Mandy has her own fashion line, called Mblem. Her albums may not be top-sellers, but through her acting Mandy has proven her career longevity.
