Marilyn Manson

Although it may seem like he's from another planet, singer Marilyn Manson isn't an alien, in fact he was born Brian Hugh Warner on January 5, 1969 in Canton, Ohio, right here on planet Earth. Brian had a relatively normal, uneventful childhood and after high school graduation, moved to Florida, where he attended Broward Community College, working towards a degree in journalism. While in school, he wrote articles for a local entertainment magazine and met musician Trent Reznor, who was soon to play an important role in his life. Taking his stage name from screen icon Marilyn Monroe and infamous cult leader Charles Manson, Brian became Marilyn Manson in 1989, forming his first band, Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. In 1993, the band caught the attention of Trent, who had found success with the band Nine Inch Nails. He produced the band's first album, Portrait of an American Family and released it on his own label, Nothing Records in 1994. The band made their first splash with their cover of the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)' off of their 1995 EP, Smells Like Children. Their second album, 1996's Antichrist Superstar, executive produced by Reznor, gave the band their first big hit, 'The Beautiful People.' The band's lyrics came under fire and were the subject of congressional hearings and many if their live shows attracted protesters, but Marilyn and the band soldiered on. 1998's Mechanical Animals was another hit for the band, with the video for 'The Dope Show' featuring a more androgynous incarnation of Marilyn, who was obviously influenced by David Bowie. The band has continued to be a presence in alternative music, hitting the charts with a cover of the Depeche Mode song 'Personal Jesus' and is currently working on its seventh album. Marilyn's love life has been as interesting as his recording career. He dated actress Rose McGowan, who stunned audiences on the red carpet at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards in a barely-there dress made of chain. Marilyn married burlesque artist Dita Von Teese on November 28, 2005, the two later split in December of the next year - according to rumors, the marriage ended because of Marilyn's affair with actress Evan Rachel Wood, with whom he is still romantically attached.  As long as controversy is to be had, Marilyn Manson will be there.
