Mena Suvari

Responsible for one of the most iconic images in films from the 1990s, Mena Suvari will always be remembered as the rose petal-covered teen temptress in American Beauty, but there's so much more to her. Born on February 13, 1979, in Newport, Rhode Island, Mena had aspirations of becoming an archaeologist, astronaut or doctor. At the age of 12, she was noticed by scouts from the modeling agency Wilhelmina who visited her school  - and a career in entertainment became her dream. She made her first television appearance in a commercial for Rice-A-Roni when she was 13 and later went on to guest spots on such television series as Boy Meets World and ER. But 1999 was the year when Mena became a household name with her role in the Academy Award-winning drama American Beauty and her part as a sweet, innocent singer in the raunchy comedy American Pie. In her personal life, she married German-born cinematographer Robert Brinkmann - who is 18 years her senior - in March of 2000. The two remained together for five years. Mena returned to the screen with Pie star Jason Biggs in the romantic comedy Loser and returned for American Pie 2 in 2001. Her other notable film appearances include Sugar and Spice, The Musketeer and Spun. She also had a recurring role as a lesbian performance artist on the fourth season of HBO's critically-acclaimed series Six Feet Under, which was created by American Beauty screenwriter Alan Ball. In addition to acting and modeling, Mena is a poker enthusiast and is active with a number of women's charities. This model-turned-actress' career has truly bloomed.
