Brassy, big and beautiful, Mo'Nique has earned her title of one of the 'Queens of Comedy.' Monique Imes was born on December 11, 1967 in Woodlawn, Maryland. She got her start in comedy on a dare - her brother challenged her to take the stage at an open mic night at a Baltimore comedy club and she was an instant crowd pleaser. Her stand-up got her noticed by the producers of the sitcom Moesha, who cast her as 'Nikki Parker.' She started on the show in 1999 and that same year, she moved to the spin-off The Parkers, where she remained for five seasons. She showcased her comedy on the big screen in 2001's Queens of Comedy and went on to supporting roles in Soul Plane, Domino and Beerfest. A self-proclaimed advocate for big girls everywhere, she wrote a book called Skinny Women Are Evil and a cookbook, Skinny Cooks Can't be Trusted and hosted the plus-sized beauty pageant Mo'Nique's Fat Chance. She also advanced the cause by starring in the film Phat Girlz in 2006. More recently, Mo'Nique attempted to bring some refinement and class to some of Flavor Flav's Flavor of Love cast-offs on the VH-1 reality series Charm School. This comedienne continues to prove that big is beautiful - and funny.
