Orlando Bloom

From an enchanting elf to a sexy pirate, Orlando Bloom is winning over the hearts of movie audiences all over the world. Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born on January 13, 1977 in Canterbury, Kent, England. In school, Orlando struggled with his studies due to dyslexia and wasn't athletically-inclined, so his mother encouraged him to take art and drama classes. He excelled in his studies and in 1993, went to London to study at the Fine Arts College, Hampstead. He later spent two seasons working with the National Youth Theatre and earned a scholarship to train at the British American Drama Academy. While still in school, Orlando got small parts on the British TV series Casualty and Midsomer Murders before making his big screen debut in 1997's Wilde. After the film was completed, he continued his drama studies at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  A mere two days after graduating in 1999, director Peter Jackson cast him as the elf 'Legolas' in his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. The success of the films brought Orlando a great deal of attention - and female admirers - and led to roles in 2001's Black Hawk Down and 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl - reprising his role as Keira Knightley's love interest 'Will Turner' in two successful sequels. His other films include Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger, Troy with Brad Pitt and Elizabethtown with Kirsten Dunst. Orlando, who is no stranger to People's 'sexiest man alive' lists has romanced some of Hollywood's most eligible bachelorettes, including Dunst, Kate Bosworth and Uma Thurman and is currently linked with Australian model Miranda Kerr. This handsome actor with a great sense of humor - did you catch him poking fun at his image on Extras? - is sure to continue to find fame on an epic scale as his career grows.
