Pink

Bio

Always setting out to create her own image and sound, Pink has enjoyed chart success without having to compromise who she is. Alecia Beth Moore was born on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. At a young age, she was certain that she wanted to be a rock star. She was influenced by such artists as Janis Joplin and Steven Tyler and spent a lot of time with her father, who played the guitar and sang songs for her. In high school, Pink joined her first band, Middleground, a popular local band and she soon got involved with the club scene in Philadelphia. When she was 16, she was discovered by a record executive and joined the Atlanta-based R&B group Choice and signed a deal with LaFace Records. The band recorded an album that was never released and a single, 'Key to My Heart,' which showed up on the soundtrack to the 1996 Shaquille O'Neal film Kazaam.  After the band broke up, Pink stayed with La Face and performed backing vocals for artists such as  Diana Ross, 98 Degrees and Tevin Campbell before releasing her first album, Can't Take Me Home, in April of 2000. The album went double platinum in the U.S., sold four million copies worldwide and produced two top ten singles, 'There You Go' and 'Most Girls.' The album's third single, 'You Make Me Sick,' was featured in the film Save the Last Dance. In 2001, she teamed up with Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera and Mýa to record a cover of Labelle's 'Lady Marmalade' for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge! The song topped the charts, winning a Grammy award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and the accompanying video won the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. Wanting to be taken more seriously as a singer-songwriter, Pink worked with former 4 Non Blondes lead singer-turned-producer Linda Perry on her follow-up album, M!ssundaztood. The album, released in November of 2001 was a top five album and its lead single 'Get the Party Started'  was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and won MTV Video Music Awards for Best Female Video and Best Dance Video. The album also featured the songs 'Don't Let Me Get Me,' 'Just like a Pill' and 'Family Portrait' and was nominated for a Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy. Although she had appeared in the films Ski to the Max and Rollerball playing herself, she made a memorable cameo appearance in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and contributed the song 'Feel Good Time' to the soundtrack. Although Pink's third album, 2003's Try This, reached the top ten on album charts in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia, sales of the album were considerably lower and it was considered her first commercial flop. However, the single 'Trouble' earned Pink her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Pink worked with new producers for her next album, 2006's I'm Not Dead, which initially looked like a bad decision, as the album got a slow start in sales, but after the success of the single 'U + Ur Hand' in 2007, it ended up selling over 1 million copies. The single 'Stupid Girls' was Pink's biggest U.S. hit since 2002 and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and the music video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video. Pink's personal life has also had its share of ups and downs. In 2005, she proposed to motocross racer Carey Hart during one of his races by holding up a sign that said 'Will you marry me?'  The couple married in Costa Rica on January 7, 2006. In early 2008 they announced their separation but still remain good friends. Pink is currently working on a new album, which she hopes to release in October of 2008. With her constant evolution as an artist and willingness to try new things, Pink will never be considered a stupid girl.
