With exotic looks and catchy hooks, Barbados-born R&B superstar Rihanna has blazed the charts with no cool down in sight. Born on February 20, 1988, Robyn Rihanna Fenty had a brush with destiny when she was introduced to a music producer who was vacationing on her tropical island home. The producer, Evan Rogers, and his partner, Carl Sturken, helped Rihanna record a demo of a few songs that caught the ear of Jay-Z, who signed the young singer to his label, Def Jam Recordings.

Rihanna’s first album, Music of the Sun, was released on August 30, 2005. Her debut single, the dance hall reggae-influenced ‘Pon de Replay’ garnered decent airplay, but the album as a whole received a lukewarm reception. The singer’s sophomore effort, A Girl like Me, was released in April 2006, and the lead single, ‘S.O.S.,’ sampling the Soft Cell classic ‘Tainted Love,’ was Rihanna’s first Billboard chart hit. Her second single, the Ne-Yo-penned ‘Unfaithful,' cracked the top ten in the U.S. and UK.

With her model-quality looks, in mid 2006 Rihanna took on a small role in the direct-to-DVD Bring It On: All or Nothing starring a pre-HeroesHayden Panettiere. June of 2007 brought the singer's third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, unleashing the worldwide sensation ‘Umbrella.’ In the U.S., the song ranked second on the Billboard Hot 100 year-end chart and was named 2007’s most successful song in the world. ‘Umbrella’ also scored two Grammys - Song of the Year and Best R&B Song.

Rihanna feels a fabulous future on the way with her fourth studio album, a pivotal role in the upcoming drama Mama Black Widow, co-starring Kerry Washington and Anthony Anderson, and a romance with musical soul mate Chris Brown that has everything except plausible deniability.
