Robert Downey Jr. was born April 4, 1965, in New York, New York. He is an Oscar-nominated actor, writer, producer and director. Robert made his screen debut when he was 5 in the 1970 film Pound. During the 1980s, he had roles in movies such as Weird Science, Back to School, Less Than Zero, Johnny Be Good, 1969 and True Believer. After Less Than Zero, he started landing roles in bigger films, such as Air America, Soapdish and Natural Born Killers. In 1992, he was cast as Charlie Chaplin in the biopic Chaplin. His performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Between 1996 and 2001, Robert was frequently arrested on drug-related charges and was forced to go through several drug treatment programs. After his last stay in a court-ordered drug treatment program, he finally achieved sobriety, and his career began to take off again. He starred in films such as The Singing Detective, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and A Scanner Darkly, and had supporting roles in the films Gothika and Zodiac. He was then cast as the title character in the 2008 film version of the comic book Iron Man. His other 2008 films include Charlie Bartlett and Tropic Thunder. Next, he played the titular character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, for which he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor. In 2010, he reprised the role of Iron Man in the sequel Iron Man 2. From 1992 to 2004, Robert was married to Deborah Falconer, with whom he has one child. Since 2005, he has been married to Susan Downey.
