Robin Williams was born July 21, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. He is a well-known comedian and Academy Award-winning actor who oftentimes ad libs his lines. Some of his most popular films include Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, Aladdin, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning, Vietnam and The Fisher King. Robin studied theater at Juilliard and was discovered while performing stand-up at a nightclub. In 1974, he landed the role of Mork in an episode of the hit sitcom Happy Days, then went on to star in the popular spinoff Mork & Mindy, which ran from 1978 to 1982. Robin married first wife Valerie Velardi in 1978, and they had a son in 1983. The two divorced in 1988, and Robin married Marsha Garces in 1989. The couple had two children before divorcing in 2008. Robin suffered from cocaine and alcohol addiction for many years; he eventually checked himself into rehab in 2006. Since his recovery, he has continued to star in movies and on television, and to perform stand-up. In 2008, his comedy tour “Weapons of Self-Destruction” traveled through 26 cities and was nominated for numerous Emmy awards. In the course of his career, he has also won four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards. He currently lives in San Francisco.
