Roseanne Barr

Roseanne, a.k.a. Roseanne Barr, was born November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is known for being a stand-up comedian, author and actress who starred on an eponymous hit sitcom, Roseanne, which ran for nine seasons on ABC, from 1988 to 1997. In her stand-up routine, which focused on her life as a typical housewife, she popularized the phrase “domestic goddess.” In 1985, she got her big break: an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. In 1987, HBO gave her her own show, the short-lived On Location: The Roseanne Barr Show. Then came Roseanne, and then, in 1989, she played opposite Meryl Streep in the film She-Devil. While on the set of Roseanne, she fell for co-star Tom Arnold. She divorced longtime husband Bill Pentland, with whom she had three children, and married Arnold. After four years, however, the couple divorced, and Roseanne took an interest in bodyguard Ben Thomas. The two married in 1995 and were divorced in 2002. They had one child. She won a Golden Globe for her work on Roseanne, and after the show was canceled, she went on Broadway to play the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. She then hosted her own talk show, The Roseanne Show, for two years, until it was cancelled in 2000. In 2011, she will release her third book, Roseannearchy
