Rosie Perez

Bio

Rosie, a.k.a. Rosa Maria, Perez was born September 6, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York. Perez is an Oscar-nominated actress and choreographer who choreographed music videos for Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, Diana Ross and LL Cool J. She started her career as a dancer on Soul Train in the late ’80s. She was also the Fly Girls’ choreographer on the popular sketch-comedy show In Living Color. Spike Lee discovered her dancing in a nightclub in 1988, and offered her a starring role in his groundbreaking movie, Do the Right Thing. Rosie has since appeared in films like White Men Can’t Jump, Pineapple Express and Fearless, for which she earned an Oscar nod. During a 2009 appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, she suffered neck and hip injuries and had to undergo surgery. In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed her to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. Rosie married Seth Zvi Rosenfeld in 1999, but the couple later divorced.
