Bio

  • Born: October 23, 1976

With a winning combination of good looks and charm - with just a pinch of snark, Canadian-born actor Ryan Reynolds continues to win over audiences. Ryan Rodney Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976 in Vancouver, British Columbia. His career had a promising start, landing a role on Nickelodeon's first and only teen soap opera Fifteen in 1991. His performance on the show earned him a nomination for a Young Artist Award. After Fifteen went off the air in 1993, Ryan moved back to Vancouver and was having a hard time finding work, occasionally landing a small role on a TV show like Sabrina the Teenage Witch or television movie, such as 1995's Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story, starring Glenn Close. He almost gave up acting, but was convinced by friend and former Fifteen co-star Chris William Martin to move to Los Angeles and give acting another try. In 1998 he was cast as 'Michael 'Berg' Bergen' on the ABC sitcom Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place. Although the show didn't have a promising start, it ended up gaining an audience and running for four seasons.

In 2002's Van Wilder, Ryan's portrayal of the smooth-talking popular lead character got the attention of movie audiences and led to even more big screen parts, such as Buying the Cow with Jerry O'Connell and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, where he had a memorable cameo as an amorous male nurse. After finding success in comedies, Ryan tried his hand at more serious roles such as the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror and Blade:Trinity with Jessica Biel and Wesley Snipes. For his role in the action film, Ryan showed off his impressive physique, the result of the intense physical training he underwent to play vampire hunter 'Hannibal King.' Of course, Ryan still managed to inject a bit of his trademark humor into the role and continued his streak of success in comedy with the films Waiting... and Just Friends with Amy Smart and Anna Faris.

Recently, he played as an FBI agent alongside Ray Liotta in the thriller Smokin' Aces and starred in the romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe. The dashing actor has also found success with the opposite sex, going out with actress Rachel Leigh Cook and dating singer Alanis Morissette for almost five years. On May 5, 2008, Ryan broke the hearts of women - and men - everywhere when he announced his engagement to actress Scarlett Johansson. Upcoming projects for Ryan include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing 'Deadpool' opposite Hugh Jackman and the romantic comedy The Proposal with Sandra Bullock. Whether making us laugh or keeping us on the edge of our seats, Ryan Reynolds is one guy we'd like to see more of.
