Sarah Palin was born February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. The politician gained national attention when she joined Senator John McCain on the 2008 Republican Party Presidential ticket, running for Vice President. She was heavily criticized in the media for various controversial comments she made during the campaign. Sarah’s political career started when she became a member of the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council in 1992. In 1996, she became the city’s mayor for six years, and ten years later, she became the youngest person and the first woman to be elected Governor of Alaska. After losing the Presidential election with McCain, Sarah resigned as Alaska Governor. Rumors quickly circulated that she would run for President in the next election. In the meantime, Sarah wrote an autobiography, Going Rogue: An American Life, which became a bestseller. In 2010, she signed a multi-year contract with FOX News to provide political commentary for the show. Her second book, America by Heart, is expected to hit shelves in November 2010. Sarah is also allegedly in the process of creating her own talk show. Her fame landed her family in the spotlight as well, and in 2010, Sarah’s daughter, Bristol, was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
