Sean Penn


Sean Penn was born August 17, 1960, in Santa Monica, California. The actor and director is best known for his Oscar-winning roles in Mystic River and Milk. Sean was born into an acting family; in 1974, he appeared on an episode of Little House on the Prairie, which his father was directing. Seven years later, he appeared in the film Taps, and a year after that, he starred in the hit comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. In 1983, he received rave reviews for his portrayal of Mick O’Brien in the drama Bad Boys. Penn received his first Oscar nomination for his role in 1995’s Dead Man Walking, and he was nominated again in 1999 for his comedic role in Sweet and Lowdown. Sean’s third Oscar nomination came in 2002, for his portrayal of a mentally handicapped father in I Am Sam. In 1991, Sean made his directorial debut with The Indian Runner; he has since directed three other films, including The Crossing Guard, The Pledge and Into the Wild. Sean dated actresses Elizabeth McGovern and Susan Sarandon before marrying Madonna in 1985. The couple was married for four years and received lots of media attention for Sean’s alleged misconduct with paparazzi. After he and Madonna divorced, Sean started a relationship with actress Robin Wright. The couple married in 1996 after having two children; they divorced in 2010. Sean has also been romantically linked to singer Jewel. He directed the music video for her song, “You Were Meant for Me.”
